A Periodentist deals with the surrounding and the supporting structures of the teeth. The Periodontist is considered a specialist because the training involves between two to three years in addition to completing four years of dental school.

The Periodontist treats gingivitis, crown lengthening, soft tissue grafting, bone grafting, gingival flap procedures, soft tissue recontouring or removal, hard tissue contouring and dental implant placement.
