Dental Emergencies is a type of emergency usually involving the teeth or the gums. Pain involving parts of the mouth may be minor but can indicate a severe underlining problem that may worsen over time. It is important to understand to contact the dentist immediately if any symptoms occur to minimize the damage to the teeth, gums and surrounding bone structure.

Toothache:
The cause of a Toothache may be the not originating from the oral cavity (the teeth or the jaw). It is estimated that over one hundred diseases may be detected within the oral cavity who have an direct influence through out the body. The symptoms of pain around the teeth and the jaw may be related to inner ear infection, angina or heart attack. It is important for you to understand that an evaluation by the dentist in conjunction with doctor is may be necessary to diagnose and treat medical illness causing toothache.
A Toothache or pain around the teeth and gums can be caused by a cracked or broken tooth, an exposed tooth root, gum disease or a cavity.
Try to clean your teeth by flossing first and rinse with warm salt water if the pain persist see you dentist.
Pulpal inflammation is present when pain occurs with hot cold or sweet stimuli
The complication may be a periapical abscess. Your dentist will advise you for treatment option.
Abscess:
An Abscess is a localized infection you may notice a pimple like swelling on you gums or discoloration. Salt water rinse is well advised followed by seeing your dentist immediately to prevent a more serious infection.
Tooth Decay:
Tooth Decay or cavities is one of the most common dental problem if the cavity enters deep into the tooth it is associated with severe pain.
A cavity is the direct link of plaque sitting on the teeth for a long time. To prevent plaque sitting on your teeth daily brushing in combination with flossing and regular professional cleaning with the dental hygienist is the essence for healthy teeth.
Lost Filling:
If nothing is available to you may use sugar free gum place in the area where the filling is lost or if possible over the counter cement may be placed. However this is only a temporary solution please see your dentist to prevent more damage.
Lost Crown:
If there is nothing available to you and you still have the crown, gently rinse the crown out with water and place some toothpaste into the crown. Then place the crown back onto the tooth followed by biting gently on your teeth. There are over the counter cements available but be very careful because there can be more damage done, the reason you can not clean the overflow of cement. Please see your dentist to prevent further damage. Never use any sharp instruments because you may cut into your gums.
Under no circumstances use super glue in you mouth. You may apply clove oil to the sensitive area.
Chipped or Broken Teeth:
If you find the broken part of the tooth, gently rinse with water and place the piece into a plastic bag and see your dentist do not place the broken part into tissue paper.
Knocked Out Tooth:
Touch only the tooth by the clinical crown (the visual part of the tooth which is exposed in the mouth). Gently rinse the tooth if it is dirty and place it into a plastic bag with milk or saline and see your dentist he or she may place the tooth back into the socket. Do not place the tooth into tissue paper. If the tooth can be placed back into the socket within the hour the chances are that the tooth may be saved.
Bleeding or Soft Tissue Injuries to the Tongue, Cheeks, Gums, and Lips Due to Injury:
It is well advised to rinse with warm salt water, place a compress or gauze to stop the bleeding. On the outside of the mouth you may apply a cold compress and hold it into place for 10 to 20 minutes. Remember an injuries within the mouth or lips can bleed profusely if the bleeding does not stop see you dentist or go to the hospital emergency .
