Braces / Retainer:

Dental Braces or Orthodontic Brackets, are common among teenagers and even adults. Dental braces can be used to adjust crooked teeth, misaligned upper and lower jaw, and uneven bites, including overbites and underbites. The Orthodontist is qualified to decide which braces are the best for the particular situation.

Dental Braces do more than help your teeth look better; getting braces is actually good for the health of your teeth! Misaligned teeth may promote tooth decay and can affect the way you chew and speak. There are now mini braces that come in colors or ceramic braces that are tooth-colored and gold braces. Invisible braces may be used to re-align your teeth without anyone knowing you're wearing them!

Different Types of Braces:

1) Metal Dental Braces:

Metal braces are very visible this may be the reason people shy away.

2) Ceramic or Clear Dental Braces:

They are less visible and look more natural than metal braces, as they blend in with the teeth. Ceramic dental braces do not stain, and are as strong as metal ones.

3) Gold Dental Braces:

Same as traditional metal braces, but made of gold-plated steel. There are no advantages to using gold over steel, except from the cosmetic appeal.

4) Lingual Dental Braces:

A treatment alternative available to those patients who are in need of orthodontic treatment but, primarily for cosmetic reasons, are reluctant to have it. Lingual dental braces are placed on the inside of the teeth. They are the preferred option for people who want their braces to be truly invisible. This positioning makes them essentially non-visible to others and means that the patient can undergo complete orthodontic treatment without suffering the cosmetic detraction and stigma typically associated with having braces.

5) Invisalign (is a trade mark) Dental Braces:

These are a great choice for people with slight problems. Invisalign (TM) braces are practically invisible, and can be removed for eating and brushing and flossing your teeth. Invisalign(TM) braces are computer-designed, and must be changed every two weeks, since they are made of clear plastic and cannot be adjusted. Invisible Braces are clearly different a technology that has revolutionized orthodontics. The type of braces are virtually undetectable and they go unnoticed when speaking in social situations. Clear Braces can give you that beautiful smile by straightening your teeth without anyone knowing. Always consult your Orthodontist to find the best solution.

Dental Braces allow an Orthodontist to apply pressure to the teeth to move them gradually over time into the desired position. Fixed braces, are attached to the molars and bonded to the enamel of the front teeth. They cannot be removed by the patient. In some more serious cases, a headgear is required to keep the upper jaw back as the lower jaw grows to catch up. Orthodontic retainers help hold the teeth in place once the dental braces are removed. Average treatment time with dental braces is about two years, but may be longer or shorter depending on your specific case and the type of dental braces the orthodontist choose. In modern Orthopedics a ortho implant may be used.

Oral Hygiene is extremely important at this time. Because of the difficulty in cleaning, the patient will be taught how to clean both the brace and their teeth properly. Normal brushing or the aide of an electric toothbrush, is usually recommended. Flossing if possible is also essential.
